The Christmas holidays will be, perhaps more than ever this year, a welcome break from the pressures of everday life. Its a time packed with festive rituals, one of my favourites is choosing the wines.
The mad rush of Christmas Eve is nt complete until we lay a glass of decent scotch down for Rudolf and I’m sure he’ll enjoy the recently released ‘Fior’ from the Fettercairn Distillery, with its lovely mocha and creme caramel aromas and a smooth a silk palate.
Whispering young voices will no doubt wake you up at Dawn so by mid-morning a glass of fizz will be a welcome reviver. Bucks fizz is always delicious or try the Italian Prosecco Conegliano Ca’ Morlin, this is a superior Italian sparkler from the Veronese hillside village of Valdobbiadene.
Fizz is also a great aperatif, a glass of Vintage Champagne will set you up for the feast ahead. 2002 is a superb vintage, which is quickly disappearing off the shelves, Veuve Clicquot 2002 is a classic example.
